Who’s Behind Tanamera
The Tanamera dream started behind a small makeshift factory in 1995. Three siblings in Malaysia dreamed up a natural business concept when “natural” was not the “in” thing. Fast forward 12 years and they are firmly etched in the “natural” products market designing products for players in the industry. It was a journey not without stumbling blocks and challenges but well worth every effort taken.
1999 was an important mark in the journey when the three siblings, Faridah, Fauziah and Faisal completed their RM 1.5 million GMP certified natural products factory. Their main business was formulating, designing and manufacturing health supplements for multi level and wholesale companies in Malaysia and abroad. After establishing FA Herbs Sdn Bhd firmly as a preferred contract manufacturer, the three siblings embarked on another journey to realize their dream of a truly natural products range that is targeted towards the international market.
Tanamera was born in the year 2000 as an outlet to let their creative juices flow in the formulating and designing of a natural product range. Unhampered and unlimited by client’s needs and wants, the Tanamera concept was created to be all natural from top to bottom. Tanamera products natural formulations are packaged in unbleached recycled paper with infusion of local Malaysian designs, albeit with a modern twist. No toxic chemicals, artificial coloring and fragrance are used in Tanamera products. The team started out with a range of natural herbal soaps and essential oils mists from tropical herbs and essential oils.
To help market Tanamera abroad, the siblings set up a separate company to exclusively expand the Tanamera brand. In 2003, their foray into the natural products market changed directions when they met up with a German lady who wanted to go into the flourishing home spa market. Together the team tailor made the Tanamera line into a spa range by adding products like body scrubs, massage oils, body masks, incense sticks and etc. At present Tanamera retail range has approximately 80 core products not inclusive of spa accessories. Tanamera also offers about 80 professional products to be used in Spa treatments along with a list of treatments database Spas can access into. Tanamera products focus on ingredients that can be found in the tropical belt with leaning towards Malay beauty treatments.
The Evolution Of Tanamera
Through it all, we never lose focus on our core objective, which is to offer a truly natural product range. Most of Tanamera products come in powder form eliminating the need to use chemicals and preservatives. Those that comes in liquid or paste form are preserved with a patented blend of herbal actives and essential oils preservative.
Our effort to maintain the integrity of a real natural product range was recognized in 2005 when we were awarded the Good Design Award (“G-Mark”) by Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO). G-Mark Japan’s only synthetic design evaluation / recommendation system which is based on “Good Design Selection System” established by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan in 1957. Tanamera was also the winner of the best Home Spa products in the Malaysian Wellness Award 2009 and numerous local awards.

As our retail range grew, we had to invest in a small shop in Central Market and have since expanded to 20 retail locations through partnerships with department stores, airports and natural products outlets in shopping malls. Our vision in the future is to have Tanamera Lifestyle boutiques around the world!
Since 2003, Tanamera have been exporting products to be used in Spas for beauty treatments. Tanamera concept of producing down to earth natural Spa products have been very well received by the Wellness and Spa industry and Tanamera products can be found in high end Spas around the world.
Tanamera Green Amenities
Tanamera “Green amenities” is a line of hotel amenities that are environmentally sensitive, natural and infused with only the best herbal ingredients. Even though this is a fairly new project by Tanamera, the market has been very receptive towards a kinder more natural offering to guests.
Tanamera “Green amenities” contain:
- Natural actives from botanical complexes. All botanical complexes have been studied for its efficacy.
- High percentages of botanical complex compared to most products in the market. Most “natural” products contains very small amount of botanicals.
- Natural base from plant ingredients to support the natural actives. Generally, many cosmetics touted as “natural” turn out to be purely an advertising gimmick. Cosmetics called “natural” or “certified organic” can still contain additives, preservatives, synthetic colourings agents and many other things that are probably very unnatural.
- Ingredients that is pure and mild to the hair and skin.
- No artificial fragrance, no colouring, no toxic chemicals, no artificial preservatives
- A natural preservatives complex patented in the USA made from herbal extracts and essential oils
Currently, Tanamera is working with a hotel amenities supplier to approach eco conscious hoteliers who are interested in establishing environmentally friendly properties with a line of amenities that will help PROTECT OUR ONE AND ONLY EARTH!
Tanamera Wellness Spa centers
The history of Malaysian beauty treatments can be traced back to nearly a thousand years and richly influenced by local Malays, Arabs, Chinese, Indians, Javanese and countless other races that have come and resided in Malaya then.
Traditional Malay beauty treatments are generally family secrets that are handed down from generation to generation and rarely shared for commercial gain. However, with younger generations showing less interest in the traditional beauty treatments, older generations are more willing to share less the art dies with the lack of practitioners. So, what was once practiced behind closed doors by midwives, healers and wedding planners or more commonly known as “mak andam” are now revived and shared to keep the art of Malay beauty treatments
TANAMERA Wellness Spas sets out to revive this dying art by adopting traditional Malay treatments in their Spa menu. Combined with the use of TANAMERA award winning natural range of spa products, clients will be infused with the healing touch and fragrances of a totally tropical journey.
Since 2008 TANAMERA have mentored entrepreneurs who wants to integrate the concept of Traditional Malay spa” into their spa facility with Tanamera Wellness Spa licensing program . The TANAMERA team, with the help of associate Spa consultants creates menus, protocols, and trains and equips spas with locally trained therapists.
Presently, we have partnered with individual investors to set up 6 TANAMERA wellness spas in strategic locations around Malaysia. We hope to start international Tanamera Wellness Spa licensing by 2013.
